LOCATION
The French Quarter RV Resort is located in New Orleans, Louisiana. As the name would suggest, the RV resort is located on the northern edge of the historic and iconic French Quarter neighborhood. In fact, it is the only RV resort located within walking distance of the French Quarter and it’s popular attractions.
A 5 minute walk to St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, a 10 minute walk will put you on infamous Bourbon Street, 15 minutes to Jackson Square and Cafe du Monde and 20 minutes to the French Market area.
The resort is located just off of I-10 making pulling in with a big rig easier than ever- no having to navigate the narrow corridors of the French Quarter with your RV.
Additional points of interest such as the SuperDome, the Audubon Park and Zoo and the Jean Lafitte National Park are just a short drive away. If you want to be immersed in NOLA, this is the place to stay!
SITES
The French Quarter RV Resort offers 52 total back- in sites with full hook ups including 30/50 amp service, water, sewer and cable. The large, level sites are constructed of brick pavers and are in excellent condition. The sites are further apart than most RV resorts as they each feature a designated parking spot for your tow vehicle directly beside the RV pad. While the sites do not offer much privacy, they are well landscaped with grass and even a few palm trees. The resort is enclosed and gated.
AMENITIES
What makes this resort so special is its proximity to the French Quarter. Have we mentioned you can walk there?! Personally, we think that is an amenity in and of itself. Aside from that though, you can expect free wifi, a beautiful courtyard area with a pool, hot tub and outdoor bar, laundry facilities, a fitness room, private bathrooms, a business office and private security.
GOOD FOR KIDS
The resort is not age restricted but is also not geared towards children. We would consider it kid-friendly but does not have a playground nor other kid-specific amenities.
GOOD FOR PETS
Yes. The majority of guests had pets with them. The campground itself is flat, level and good for walking a furry friend. There are doggy waste stations. However, there is not a dedicated dog area or park.
GOOD TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Theres a lot to cover in this section
Safety
The short version: Don’t be scared off by the additional security measures. Just remember- you’re in the city, so be aware of your surroundings and use common sense. If you do, you should have an amazing time in the French Quarter.
The long version: Staying directly in the city, especially one as large and popular as New Orleans, means you’re not just getting the pros but also the cons. On the outskirts of the city, as well as the area beyond the RV park, safety may be a concern if out late at night. Walking to and from the French Quarter is safe during the daytime but is not advisable in the dark.
As in any city, you may encounter some folks with nefarious intentions. Additionally, beyond the RV park (in the opposite direction of the French Quarter so you would have no reason to walk this direction) you may see some panhandlers and the occasional homeless camp.
That being said, we walked to and from the French Quarter every single day, sometimes multiple times, as a family with our children and never once felt unsafe. If it were just the two of us adults walking, we would even feel comfortable walking in the dark as long as were not alone. We saw many of our fellow RV neighbors doing so.
Also worth noting is the police station is located just one block from the RV resort and you must pass it to get to the French Quarter. This provided an extra layer of feeling secure.
The RV resort itself is gated, fenced (topped with razor wire) and has it’s own security team. Again, we felt nothing but safe staying here with our family. We just don’t want anyone else to be surprised, as most other RV parks we have stayed at did not have walls topped with razor wire nor their own private security.
Bottom line, it’s a city and we felt the same being out at night in New Orleans as we do being out at night in downtown Pittsburgh, our hometown.
Other thoughts
- There are things to do with kids in New Orleans, but there are definitely more kid-friendly destinations elsewhere.
- Our recommendation? Stroll down Bourbon Street to take a photo and check it off your list, then leave.
- Beware of scammers, con artists and panhandlers. They are prevalent, especially on Bourbon Street.
- New Orleans is now the 3rd city in the US to require proof of COVID vaccination. Alternatively, they also permit a negative COVID PCR test within 72 hours. This applies to all restaurants, bars and businesses and is strictly enforced. If you need a rapid PCR test, you can register for one at nolacovidtesting.com and get tested at their location on Canal Street. They will provide you results to your phone in 30 minutes complete with a scannable QR code.
WOULD WE STAY AGAIN?
Yes. In our opinion, if you’re coming to visit New Orleans with your RV, this is THE place to stay. We wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else. It puts you at the doorstep of the French Quarter within walking distance of all that NOLA is known for. We will be visiting again for sure!
